Chantelle Grant – mezzo

In June 2025 season, Chantelle Grant created the mezzo role in a brand new Opera – THE TIN ANGEL – with Teatro Grattacielo at LaMaMa in NYC. The story is based on a true Jazz hangout in the East Village of NY in the 1950s. This was followed in August 2025 by Wagner’s RING CYCLE in the role of Erda with Tundi Productions in Vermont. The reviews are stellar below.

Toronto born Chantelle Grant’s 2023/2024 season included polishing her craft in ensemble at the Metropolitan Opera in the Verdi Requiem, the Grammy award winning Metropolitan Opera production of Fire Shut Up In My Bones, and the revised A. Davis opera X: The Life And Times Of Malcolm X. Chantelle was also a part of the sold out Seattle Opera production of X: The life and times of Malcolm X.

Last summer saw Chantelle debut with Tundi Productions in Vermont singing the role of Grimgerde in Die Walküre. In 2022 Chantelle was a member of the cast of X: The Life And Times Of Malcolm X with Detroit Opera and Opera Omaha. Chantelle was a finalist in the Voice of Black Opera Competition representing Canada in the UK last December. The mezzo made her solo debut in The Medium with City Lyric Opera and Riverside Opera Company. Ms. Grant had the pleasure of singing with Trilogy: An Opera Company as Erda in Wagner’s Siegfried, Waltraute in Götterdämmerung, and Monisha in Joplin’s Treemonisha.

Chantelle has worked with outstanding maestri such as Joseph Colaneri, Steven White, Timothy Myers, and Peter Oundjian. Ms. Grant has performed on such illustrious programs as the American Song Book series at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the Metropolitan Opera summer concerts in Damrosch Park.

A student of Bill Schuman, Ms. Grant holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Windsor, an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould Professional School and a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College. Chantelle Grant has the honor of studying with operatic legends Martina Arroyo, Regina Resnik, Jane Eaglen, and Christine Goerke.

REVIEWS

THE TIN ANGEL: ‘Chantelle Grant as Black Hattie, brought emotional weight to a role that could’ve easily slid into caricature.  Grant sang with force and focus. Her performance in the final confrontation with Babar stood out…the moment lands with some gravity.’

WAGNER RING:  ‘Mezzo soprano Chantelle Grant warns Wotan to forsake the RING in a touchingly delivered aria – it was gorgeous!’
