Galina Ivannikova – mezzo soprano

Mezzo soprano Galina Ivannikova is the new discovery on the opera scene — a dramatic mezzo ideal in the roles of Verdi’s Don Carlo, Aida, Il Trovatore, Un Ballo In Maschera, etc. The voice is spectacular in volume and quality from top to bottom, with a warm and yet penetrating sound of an Eastern European, along with an easy sounding soprano upper extension. She is a must hear for opera houses casting her repertoire!

She made her highly successful debut in 2010 as Amneris in Aida with the Memphis Opera.

Galina Ivannikova is originally from Ukraine where she was a resident artist with the Nikolaev Opera Theatre for a period of seven years. She was a leading Mezzo Soprano with the company performing such roles as Lubasha in the Tsar’s Bride by Rimsky-Korsakov, Olga in Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, Marfa in Khovanshchina by Mussorgsky, Azucena in Il Trovatore, Maddalena in Rigoletto, and the title role in Carmen by Bizet. During this period she was also a soloist in the Nikolaev Chamber Orchestra.

Mezzo soprano Ivannikova immigrated to the United States in 2005, and she makes her home in Memphis, TN. Ivannikova in the process of completing her doctorate in vocal performance at the University of Memphis, where she most recently performed the role Prince Orlovsky in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. She has covered the role of Azucena in Verdi’s Il Trovatore with Memphis Opera and Dama-in-waiting in Verdi’s Macbeth.

She won First Prize in Voice in the University of Memphis Concerto Competition in 2006. She has sung the role of Marthe in Gounod’s Faust with Memphis Opera in 2009. She coaches with Mignon Dunn, Ira Siff, Mitchell Cirker and John DiCostanzo.
